There's nothing like the last name "Butcher" when you're in the business of agriculture. People usually laugh when they find out that our last name is Butcher and we have a dairy farm, but it really shows just how long our family has been involved in agriculture. Our farm today has been many, many generations in the making.
Our story began in Canada and New York with two dairy farm families, the Butchers and the Wheatons. Leaving the cold for the promise of a longer grazing season in the South, both of these families moved to Leesburg, Georgia in the 1950’s.
As fate would have it, Bud and Jane met and became high school sweethearts. They married just after graduation and began their own dairy farm and family with three strapping boys who grew up working on the farm.
Bud's dream had always been to own a farm in the dairy capital of the world, Wisconsin, so he and Jane moved their family and began farming in Wisconsin in 1973.
After 2 years in Wisconsin, the draw of the warm, southern climate was too strong. They leased a farm in Waynesboro, Georgia until they were able to purchase their own farm in Senoia in 1980. The Butcher Family Dairy Farm was born, and here we are 40 years later.
Several years ago, we changed our farm name to Windy Hill. It wasn't too hard to find a fitting name since our barn sits on top of a windy hill. We didn't stray too far.
Many still know us as the Butcher Dairy, but no matter our farm name, our farm products are synonymous with care, commitment and quality. We are proud that we are still a family-owned and operated business after all of these years.
Today, Kirk (the youngest of Bud & Jane's sons) owns and manages day-to-day operations with help from his dad, Bud; wife, Stephanie; daughter, Tori; and sons, Shane & Slade. Top hands include: Tim, Kimber, Cheryl, Angel, Mandy, Hunter & William.
From our farm, to your family.
